Analytics for Canton network: Sync Insights on Canton Insiders

Sync Insights was recently featured on Canton Insiders, the podcast series brought to you by Catalyst Blockchain Manager from IntellectEU — a show that goes inside the Canton Network and talks to the builders actually operating on it today.

Kelly Cherniwchan, CEO and founder of Chata.ai and the team behind Sync Insights, joined host Bohdan Ivanov for a full walkthrough of the platform: what it does, who it's built for, and where it's headed. If you run a validator, super validator, or any kind of operation on Canton Network, the conversation covers a lot of ground you'll recognize.

Below is a summary of the key points from the episode. You can watch the full video on YouTube.

1. Why Canton's Privacy Architecture Made Sync Insights a Natural Fit

Kelly and the Chata.ai team had spent years building analytics for traditional finance — and in TradFi, data privacy isn't optional. The platform was already designed to deploy language models inside the customer's own environment, so sensitive data never leaves the building. When Kelly read the Canton white paper and understood the network's privacy-first architecture, it felt like a natural extension of what they were already doing.

"That real privacy component was quite a critical part — because when we work in the TradFi space, one of the most important parts of the platform we had to build was to deploy the language models and deploy the services into the environment of the customer, because of that privacy factor."

For a team already operating that way in traditional finance, Canton wasn't a pivot. It was a fit. If you want to understand how that translates into practice, our post on going beyond a Canton Network explorer covers the institutional analytics layer in more detail.

2. Who's Using Sync Insights App and For What?

The first users were node operators. They needed to run reports for the clients they were hosting, set up easy dashboards, and stop fielding manual data requests one by one. That's where Sync Insights started.

Then app developers came in — not just checking current balances through the scan API, but tracking transactional-level activity, monitoring app performance, and understanding what was happening across their deployments in real time.

The platform has become a tool for financial teams who need audit-ready records. Instead of reconstructing transaction histories from API snapshots, they now have the full transactional ledger to work from — structured, timestamped, and ready for quarterly reporting.

"The biggest group initially was just the validator node operators — they have to do reporting for some of the people they're hosting, they want to set up easy dashboards for them, they don't want to have to manually answer data requests. Then as more app development started happening, people wanted to be able to track app development a lot quicker, better, faster."

3. Real-Time Rewards & Fee Tracking

One of the most-used areas on the platform is rewards visibility. Sync Insights tracks unclaimed rewards, sync fee trends over time, and the overall inflation curve — all in a single dashboard, with natural language queries.

The fee data always tells a story worth watching. Sync fees fluctuate — that's expected — but the trend over time has been upward. For anyone trying to understand the health and momentum of the network, that's exactly the kind of signal that usually gets lost when you're only checking in periodically.

"You'll see sync fees are volatile a little bit, but they actually have been increasing over time — which is really the trend that everybody wants."

You can also break down rewards by organization, track what different parts of the network earn, and filter by time range — without writing a single line of SQL. For a deeper look at how Canton Network analytics turns this data into action, we've covered that in full.

4. Transaction-Level Financial Reporting

This is the feature that changes the work for finance teams. Every sync fee purchase, every CC transfer, every value movement — Sync Insights captures the USD conversion rate at the exact moment the transaction occurred. Not an end-of-day average. Not an assumption. The actual rate at that second.

The result: at the end of the month or quarter, unrealized gains and losses are already calculated. No retroactive averaging, no spreadsheet reconciliation, no going back through price history to estimate what Canton coin was worth when a transfer happened.

"You actually have an exact amount of USD you've earned... you now have your unrealized gains and losses automatically calculated for you, and you don't have to spend that extra time as a financial team to try to calculate all of that stuff out."

For institutions where financial reporting accuracy is a compliance requirement, that distinction matters.

5. Wallet Activity & Relationship Mapping

Beyond individual transactions, Sync Insights makes it easy to visualize how wallets are interacting across the network — which wallets are working with which, how many records are moving between them, and where activity is concentrated versus where it's sparse.

For network-level analysis, it shows the full dynamics of on-chain interactions. For internal use, it gives CFO offices a straightforward way to trace their own movements without submitting data requests to an analytics team.

"People just get a better idea of the dynamics going on in the network, or if it's their own transactions, the offices of the CFO have a much easier time going into the system to trace the movements."

The wallet relationship view is particularly useful for spotting patterns that don't show up in aggregate dashboards — high-volume relationships between specific addresses, clusters of activity at certain times, outliers worth investigating. See also our post on tracking featured transfers and markers on Canton Network for a closer look at how this works in practice.

6. Automated Alerts & Scheduled Reports

Dashboards are useful. But nobody has time to check dashboards all day.

That's why the alerts and scheduling features are among the most actively used parts of the platform. You describe what you want to monitor — in plain language — and a worker runs in the background, checking the data and notifying you when something happens.

Largest transfers every 24 hours. Best minting rounds. Lowest bandwidth periods. Wallet-level activity for your own addresses. All of it can be automated, with results delivered to your phone or to the in-platform notification interface.

"We're all too busy to be checking in on dashboards all the time."

You can also schedule structured reports — end-of-week earnings summaries, monthly reward snapshots, or any custom query on a recurring cadence. The data arrives on schedule, without anyone having to remember to pull it.

7. Deterministic AI — The Part Banks Actually Care About

Most AI-powered analytics tools are built on large language models. The responses are good — often excellent — but they're probabilistic. Ask the same question twice and you might get different answers. At scale, in a compliance context, that's a problem.

Sync Insights is built differently. The core of the platform is what Kelly describes as compositional learning — a deterministic AI architecture where the same query returns the same result, every time. The language model is used for certain workflow components, but the analytics layer itself doesn't hallucinate, interpolate, or vary.

"You get the same answer every time. So if you're a bank, you don't have to worry about getting sued because the data coming back is incorrect."

For financial institutions being asked to adopt blockchain infrastructure, that assurance matters. It's not just a technical distinction — it's the difference between a tool that fits inside an audit trail and one that doesn't.

Get Started: The Natural Pairing for Canton Operations

If you're joining Canton Network or already running operations on it, the combination Bohdan described at the end of the episode is a practical starting point:

Spin up your validator with Catalyst Blockchain Manager — a straightforward install that gets your node running without the complexity.

Add Sync Insights for the data layer — real-time analytics, automated reporting, wallet visibility, and deterministic financial data, all without writing SQL or building a reporting stack from scratch.

"The perfect combo for everyone willing to join Canton is to spin up the validator — you can use Catalyst Blockchain Manager — and the data layer can be covered by Sync Insights."
